BREAD-CEPR Development Economics Annual Symposium 2026
The Department of Economics had the great pleasure of hosting the BREAD-CEPR Development Economics Annual Symposium 2026 in Zurich.
The BREAD-CEPR Development Economics Annual Symposium 2026 took place on 4–5 September in Zurich, jointly organised by the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD), the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and the Department of Economics at the University of Zurich.
The BREAD-CEPR Symposium is one of the flagship annual gatherings in development economics, and the 2026 programme committee included Pascaline Dupas (Princeton), David Atkin (MIT), and Eliana La Ferrara (Harvard Kennedy School), alongside our own Ingvild Almås, Lorenzo Casaburi, Esther Duflo, Ronak Jain, and David Yanagizawa-Drott. Over two full days, the symposium brought together researchers from institutions such as Stanford, Oxford, Harvard, Princeton, University College London, and CREI, presenting work spanning labor markets, education, AI in governance, conservation policy, migration, and refugee integration. Each day featured a mix of full and short talks, and Friday concluded with a reception and dinner.
Hosting this symposium reflects our department's continued role as a hub for development economics research in Europe, and we were glad to welcome such a strong international group of scholars to Zurich.
