Timo Boppart joined the Department of Economics as Professor of Macroeconomics and Political Economy. Boppart’s research work focuses on the field of economic growth, firm dynamics, labor supply and development.
Andreas I. Mueller joined the Department of Economics as Professor of Macroeconomics and Labor Markets and is an Affiliated Professor at the UBS Center. Andreas works in the areas of Business Cycles, Labor Markets, Unemployment Insurance and Job Search Behavior.

Martin Schlegel graduated in economics from the University of Zurich in 2003. He then joined the Swiss National Bank (SNB), where he is now Vice Chairman of the Governing Board. .inspired visited the alumnus in his office on Bundesplatz in Bern and spoke to him about the SNB’s goals and challenges, the Swiss franc, and his career.

Alumni in the fields of sociology, political science and economics gathered to listen to Ernst Fehr’s lecture on the roots of egalitarian aspirations. Afterwards, young politicians Ronja Jansen and Matthias Müller discussed the political implications of his findings.
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics honors Prof. Dr. Douglas Bernheim of Stanford University on recommendation from the Department of Economics for his varied research work, in particular in the fields of game theory and behavioral economics.
At the 6th ECONnect event this week, Ralph Ossa, Chief Economist at the WTO, Rikke Riber Rasmussen, Principal Economist at Google Switzerland, and Gregory Crawford, Chief Economist at Zalando and Professor of Economics at UZH, spoke about what their work looks like outside the university.

David Dorn receives the German Economic Association's most prestigious academic prize, the Hermann-Heinrich-Gossen award. It is conferred annually to the best economist under age 45 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Prof. Dr. Ulf Zölitz has been promoted by the Board of the University to Associate Professor ad personam of Economics of Child and Youth Development, effective October 1, 2023.

Amanda Dahlstrand joined the Department of Economics as Assistant Professor of Applied Microeconomics in July 2023. Amanda works in the areas of organizations, labor and development, with a focus on health and inequality within those fields.
A successful semester in many ways is coming to a close. Members of the Department have received institutional, national and international appreciation for their work.

After graduating, our students typically receive numerous offers for employment, including at leading academic and policy institutions or in industry. Many choose to pursue academic careers, where they compete internationally for the best academic positions. Chiara Aina and Regina Siebel chose to pursue academic positions and both received offers from several outstanding Economics Departments.
Effectively combating climate change requires fundamental changes in economy and society. How can we achieve sustainable management of our resources while minimising the loss of prosperity? Which countries, industries and companies will be the winners and which the losers of climate change? How can we achieve international cooperation in environmental policy ? Researchers at the Department of Economics are investigating these and similar questions within the framework of the research focus "Achieving a Sustainable Economy".
