Rankings confirm: Among the best Econ Departments in Europe
The Department of Economics is among the top three European economics departments and the undisputed number one on the European continent. This demonstrates the high quality and impact of our research.
We primarily evaluate our own performance based on the Tilburg and Handelsblatt rankings. These two rankings are best in capturing academic contributions:
Tilburg Ranking
As we set ourselves challenging standards, we only include top publications in our own evaluation of the Tilburg Ranking: American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Review of Economic Studies.
Over the last 20 years the Department of Economics has increased its score by fourfold and is has become of the leading economics departments in Europe. In global comparison, the Department ranks at number 20.
Handelsblatt Ranking
The German business magazine Handelsblatt produces a bi-annual ranking of economists in the German-speaking area since 2006. It is based on the weighted number of scientific publications in relevant journals and measures research output on an individual as well as an institutional level.
For the last couple of years the Department leads the ranking by far.
