Chloé Michel completed her PhD at the Zurich Graduate School of Economics (Zurich GSE) in 2017. She was the holder of an Excellence Foundation Zurich scholarship funded by Zürcher Kantonalbank. We asked her a few questions about her studies.
Why did you decide to pursue a PhD?
During my master's degree, I was a research assistant for a professor in Empirical and Health Economics. Because I was fascinated by this research and inspired by my professor, I wanted to stay at the university for a few more years.
What did you particularly like about the Department of Economics?
I was proud to study Economics in Zurich and to be at a university where such eminent and inspiring economists as Ernst Fehr were doing research.
How did your time at Zurich GSE prepare you for your career?
As a Behavioral Research Manager at Swiss Re, I can apply the skills I acquired during my PhD studies. It was also helpful to build a connection to the private sector and a network during my studies. Unfortunately, there was no alumni organization at the time.
Is there any advice you would like to give today's PhD students?
Dare to talk about your research as much as possible. This will not only help your projects progress but will also help you build up a helpful network early on.
