The Tilburg Ranking is an international ranking based on publications in 35 of the 70 most relevant economic and business journals.
As a department, we strive for excellence and set ourselves high standards. In the internal evaluation of our performance we therefore only include publications in top five journals (American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Review of Economic Studies). Our strategy of excellence is put to test under these stricter conditions - and the results confirm that we are doing the right things. Within this stricter setting we rank at the same level or better.
Over the last 20 years the Department of Economics has increased its score in publications in the top five journals by fourfold and is now ranked the European number three (behind the London School of Economics and University College London). In the world-wide comparison, the Department ranks at number 20.
Obviously, we are quite proud that, being a relatively small department, we have achieved such a high rank in the competitive environment we find ourselves in.
