Department of Economics – Doctoral Program in Economics

Doctoral Program in Economics

The international Doctoral Program in Economics at the University of Zurich (DPE@UZH) was launched in its current format in 2009. It offers a set of courses taught (in English) by internationally renowned scholars at the University of Zurich and world-class research opportunities. In the first year, students attend compulsory courses in Econometrics, Macroeconomics and Microeconomics where they become familiar with state-of-the-art research methods. In the second year, students attend additional field courses and seminars while being attached to different research groups within the Department of Economics. Many students spend part of their study visiting other leading international institutions in Europe and in the US. A specific feature of the doctoral program is a close attachment between graduate students and advisors and a strong team spirit among students. The goal of the program is to produce independent young researchers who can obtain academic jobs in the best universities, central banks and international organizations.

The teaching language is English. There are no tuition fees except for a small administrative charge (CHF 140.00 per semester).

There is one round of candidate selections with the application deadline of February 15th of the year in which a student seeks admission. Courses start in September.
